Traditional Cast Iron Radiators
The epitome of traditional heating, cast iron radiators are a must for any period restoration; suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, hallways and dining rooms. Our choice of six classic designs offer the clean simplicity of “school house” or the decorative “classic”. These radiators will be a perfect match for any existing radiators and being new, they come with a ten year guarantee.
As a material, cast iron has its own unique properties; these radiators will hold their heat for a long time, compared to a similar steel model, although they are slower to heat up and therefore less responsive to sudden changes in temperature.
Our range of valves include the classically styled Vintage TRV, Vintage XL TRV as well as the Black & Brass and Vienna TRV’s. Service All stocked cast iron lines are listed in bold in the technical section, primer delivered in 3 - 5 working days.
Probably the most well known form of cast iron radiators, the original imported school house models bring a real charm and character to any period property.
Classic and Ornate
The original detailed, ornate designs of the Trieste with its tasteful scroll work and decorative ears brings a touch of splendour to your home. Our new Linton range reflects the style of the 1920’s, with smooth clean lines and a choice of exclusive galvanised and painted finishes.
Our sectional cast iron range is incredibly versatile with literally hundreds of possible sizes from a wide range of column depths & heights finished to your size.
Our cast iron designs can be supplied in a base primer finish ready for you to paint in your chosen colour. To get the best possible finish we can powder coat your radiators in a selection of the top 26 most popular colours from the RAL range and 32 special finishes, see opposite for more information
Cast iron radiators are very heavy and therefore best mounted with floor supports. Bianco and Ledbury radiators can be wall mounted using our specialised wall brackets, provided the wall is structurally strong enough to take the weight. There are two methods of floor mounting; either footed end sections or individual feet. We offer two styles of feet; our standard Cast Foot or the Paw Foot, with its distinct lions paw design
- Ledbury; footed end sections as standard, cast feet, paw feet or wall brackets.
- Priory; footed end sections, cast feet or wall brackets.
- Telford; cast feet, footed ends (in limited sizes) or wall brackets.
- Trieste; footed end sections only.
- Linton; footed end sections only
- Bianco; cast feet as standard, paw feet or wall brackets.
- Luxury Brass Wall Ties & Airvents for all cast iron radiator
Cast Iron Finishes
Cast iron radiators require finishing to prevent rust forming; traditionally done using oil based paints with a high resistance to heat (at least 100°C) with a zinc based rust inhibitor used as a primer and suitable oil based undercoats. If carried out by hand this can be a long and difficult process as cast iron is very heavy and the entire surface must be covered for full protection and brushes can leave streak marks in the finish.
We can deliver your cast iron radiators fully finished and ready for installation. We use a robust, polyester powder coat paint, which is applied by our specialist painters based in the UK, to achieve a long lasting, durable finish (please see Terms & Conditions on page 199). Delivered in up to 15 working days and for orders of over 10 radiators please allow up to 25 working days for delivery (radiators may require assembly on site if over 10 sections). As a result of the casting process, cast iron radiators have a rough surface finish with small imperfections which will show after the painting process.
Although our cast iron range is supplied in Primer as standard (please be aware they are primed and ready for you to finish in your own choice of paint), or alternatively we can supply all of our cast iron designs painted in a selection of the 26 most popular RAL colours these are available from stock in up to 15 working days (4 weeks for the Linton). The RAL range of colours is an industry standard and we have selected the 26 most popular colours to finish our ranges of cast iron radiators; for a RAL chart please click here
We are now able to overpaint your cast iron radiator (except the Bianco and the Linton, see below) in any of the 32 special finishes including: metallics, mottled & textured effects (see page 170). For a Special Finish chart
For a more industrial feel all our cast iron radiators (except the Bianco) can be lightly sandblasted and then treated with a protective high gloss lacquer to retain the raw characteristics of the cast iron.
Polished & Burnished
Our cast iron ranges are available in a beautiful, burnished or high lustre, polished finish (except Bianco). Created by hand, in the UK, an initial black paint is used to protect hidden, hard to access areas of the radiator and to highlight the visible polished areas (the front, sides & tops of the sections are polished whilst the rear & more difficult to access areas between the sections remain black); a series of burnishing & polishing processes produces the final stunning results.
Linton Special & Galvanised Finishes
The Linton is a classic smooth design, available in 26 RAL colours, 4 special finishes, 1 galvanised finish, lacquered, polished and burnished (some of which are shown below). See pages 175-177 for more information
